What are essential oils and what do I mean when I say that I use the highest quality in my practices?
Simply stated, essential oils are the natural oil which are distilled from a given source. Typically plant, flower and fruit. The oils extracted retain the smell and characteristics of the source they were derived from. For example, lavender is known to aid in relaxation and carries a distinct smell. Lavender oil retains both the aroma and ability to aid with relaxation only the effects can be stronger since the oil provides a more concentrated form of it's source materials. It takes 250 pounds of lavender to collect just one pound of it's essential oil!
Essential oils can be used to help any number of complaints through varying methods. The most widely used being aromatherapy and topical application. For example, In my Restorative Yoga class I may use a diffuser to add lavender essential oils to the air to aid practitioners seeking a deeper state of relaxation.
The oils that I choose to use in my practice are of a therapeutic grade from Young Living Essential Oils which means the they come purity tested and not full of additives that can be found in lesser quality brands.
If you would like to know more about essential oils and how I use them in my practice please let me know!
